Machines Calculation & Simulation Engineer

Job content

You are a member of Technical Best Practice, the department of Desmet dedicated to the continuous evaluation & optimization of the key equipment and processes from a technological and regulatory point of view. Your role encompasses following responsibilities for static and dynamic machines and related mechanical components:

  • Conduct a thorough analysis of the provided basic data for the machines (extractors, dryers, desolventizers, cookers…), including its purpose, process conditions, technical sheets, basis of design, and preliminary drawings.
  • Perform analytical calculations on various parts by applying relevant theories and mechanics, utilizing both manual methods and MS Office applications.
  • Develop and simulate the machines using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
  • Critically analyze and evaluate the simulation results to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Equipment Design and other engineers to discuss and refine the machines design.
  • Finalize the design, ensuring it meets the approval of the relevant Steering Committee.
  • Produce and maintain all related reports, documents, and specifications on property machines.
  • Oversee the manufacturing process of the first unit in the workshop, if required.

Your profile 

  • You hold a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • You are skilled in calculating static structures and dynamic machine elements using Eurocode, Roark, Shigley, Pearson, etc.
  • You have experience with simulation software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD) for producing drawings.
  • You show proficiency in material standards (ASME and EN).
  • Knowledge in pressure vessel calculations (ASME Sec VIII, EN 13445, PED, TEMA) and welding procedures is advantageous.
  • You are able to review detailed engineering drawings to ensure manufacturability and compliance with calculations and standards.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • You are open to occasional travel (a couple of times a year) to other Desmet offices and workshops.

In this role, you are part of the sales team dedicated to the European market (5 colleagues). The Desmet technology you promote and implement at your clients represents industrial turnkey projects ranging from 500K€ to 20M€. Your role encompasses following responsibilities:

  • You receive, analyze and filter potential project leads on the Central & Eastern European market, with a focus on Poland, Czech Republic, Germany and Hungary.
  • You focus on developing long-lasting relationships with existing clients. At the same time, you keep a watchful eye on commercial opportunities with new clients.
  • You analyze technical and commercial specifications issued by the clients and coordinate internally to offer the right technical solution.
  • Throughout the sales cycle, you act as a link between the clients, your colleagues from engineering and Desmet’s legal advisors.
  • Your goal is to present final proposals, both from a commercial and technical point of view, in line with Desmet’s terms & conditions.
  • Once the project is won, you ensure the hand-over to the project management team.
  • You keep your technological knowledge up to date, thanks to Desmet’s experts and a close watch of the global market trends.

Your profile 

  • You are an engineer in one of the following fields: (electro)mechanics, chemical, bio or business engineering.
  • You have experience in industrial CAPEX projects, preferably in food & feed, chemistry or environmental processes.
  • You benefit from a first relevant technical-sales experience and wish to further grow in a commercial role.
  • You have an international profile, ideally with experience in Central and/or Eastern Europe.
  • You combine technical, analytical skills with sound communication and negotiation skills.
  • You have excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills.
  • You are fluent in English and professionally proficient in German or Polish. Any additional Slavic language is a real plus.
  • You are open for regular short travels in your region (up to 30% of the time) in combination with working from the HQ in Zaventem and homeworking.

You are a member of the Finance Department and report directly to the Finance Director. Your role includes the following main responsibilities:

  • You manage a diverse portfolio of projects structured and financed in SPVs across multiple European countries.
  • You lead financial return/valuation analysis and modelling (cash flow model) for investment opportunities, including M&A opportunities, in preparation of Management and Board decisions.
  • You steer the financial workstream of onshore and offshore tender processes in Belgium and abroad, with an emphasis on risk/returns and bankability.
  • You secure non-recourse project finance debt for projects ready for construction, and you refinance operational projects. Thanks to a thorough project expertise, you negotiate term sheets, hedge interest rates and lead the due diligence process until Financial Close.
  • You screen the financial feasibility of each project: through identification and mitigation of potential issues you support the Development, Sales and Construction teams with the financial aspects of project development, including feasibility checks, risk appreciation, contracting, guarantees and insurances.
  • You interact with and timely update the management team and communicate key project information within the broader Elicio group.

Your profile 

  • You hold a Master’s degree or higher in Finance or related disciplines.
  • You have concrete experience in one or several of these fields: non-recourse project finance/structured project finance, tender processes, M&A, transactions/corporate finance and/or financial analysis & modelling.
  • You combine this expertise with experience in renewable energy (ideally) or large infrastructure, industrial or real estate projects. International experience brings added value.
  • You combine sound analytical skills with thorough project management skills and a can-do attitude.
  • You have excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • You speak fluently Flemish and are professionally proficient in English and French.
  • You are open to work on average 3 days/week from the HQ in Ostend, in combination with homeworking and occasional meetings outside the office (Belgium and Europe).

Descriptif de fonction

Vous faites partie d’une équipe multidisciplinaire et êtes responsable, en collaboration avec le Responsable Engineering et le Chef de Projet, des activités suivantes en électricité, instrumentation et contrôle–commande (E&IC) :

Engineering :

  • Conception et réalisation de documents d’études générales E&IC pour les différents systèmes/circuits : puissance BT/MT, courant continu & UPS, coffrets contrôle–commande & RIO., etc. ;
  • Conception, dimensionnement et spécification des équipements E&IC tels que : alternateurs de groupes électrogènes, transformateurs de puissance, cellules MT, onduleurs/batteries… ;
  • Sous la gestion des ingénieurs mécaniciens, participation à l’élaboration des P&ID’s et des descriptions fonctionnelles associées ;
  • Définition des impositions E&IC pour la partie électromécanique du projet ;
  • Conception et dimensionnement des réseaux de mise à la terre et dimensionnement des courants de court–circuit ;
  • Définition, dimensionnement et spécification des câbles, protections et cheminements suivant les normes en vigueur ;
  • Guidage et supervision des dessinateurs pour la réalisation des plans ;
  • Réalisation des métrés et listes des composants (BOMs) ;
  • Consolidation des dossiers constructeurs à remettre au client final.

Achats / Suivi fournisseurs :

  • Demandes de prix, analyses comparatives technico-commerciales, négociations et passations des commandes et suivi des fournisseurs de A à Z.

Montage et mise en service :

  • Rédaction des manuels de montage E&IC et de mise en service ;
  • Support de 1ère ligne pour les superviseurs de chantier pour la partie E&IC avec, lorsque nécessaire, missions ponctuelles sur site ;
  • Gestion de la documentation as–built (partie E&IC).

Appel d’offres :

  • Analyse des cahiers de charge d’appels d’offre des clients d’IMM et réalisation des offres technico–commerciales pour le scope E&IC des projets d’IMM.

Coaching :

  • Vous guidez et encadrez vos collègues-ingénieurs en E&I/C sur différents projets.

Votre profil

  • Vous êtes ingénieur civil ou industriel en électricité/électromécanique ;
  • Vous avez de l’expérience dans la conception et la réalisation de projets industriels, de préférence de type clé en main/EPC, dans un bureau d’études ou chez un intégrateur ;
  • Vous avez soit un profil orienté I&C et BT, soit un profil orienté MT/HT. Dans les 2 cas, vous souhaitez développer une approche généraliste en E&IC ;
  • Vous avez un esprit autonome, entreprenant et créatif ;
  • Vous aimez travailler au sein d’une équipe compacte, dynamique et solidaire ;
  • Vous appréciez la variation entre le travail de bureau et de terrain ;
  • Votre regard est tourné vers l’international. De l’expérience sur des projets internationaux est un sérieux atout ;
  • Vous êtes ouvert⸱e à voyager occasionnellement à l’étranger, lors de déplacements courts ;
  • Vous êtes capable de travailler en français et avez de bonnes bases en anglais.
